I listen to otherworldly cd. I go into trance.

If you haven’t played this game...then...do it!!1

I thought it was very good. I have grown fond of the turn based combat playstyle and i think the characters are all charming. The worldbuilding was okay, i think i am over the trope of Everything is Random and Childish and Dreamlike but Not All Of it Has Meaning just because sometimes all of that erodes how seriously i can take the game. Like if things are just so RANDOM and like sure i get its trying to convey childlike imagination and how trauma can make your mind Stop and Freeze at a point in time so you don’t really grow up but i think tonally it is not the most effective. Oh well, it’s not a severe detriment, i just think its cool when each feature is deliberate.

One other drawback i found was I did think the ending sequence went on for a while...like a while a while...in that sometimes the tension of the moment would be lost esp when there would be dark scenes and i’d be like (squinting) WHO’S THERE..... But holy shit otherwise. Now to get on to the Brain Rotting aspect.

I know the premise of the Truth is a bit absurd (like two kids being able to realistically make a fall victim look like a hanging victim) but i was 100% willing to suspend all disbelief for it. Something about the way you knew sunny was involved in the death, but not quite how. And even if you saw it coming the way you did, i think basil’s role provided an interesting layer, and i do wish we got to see more into basil’s mind/psyche and what drives him as a character too. I think it is really so touching because. This was a group of friends who love each other so much. And i know theres like two main schools of understanding that you can derive from this game. By understanding, I mean “morals” or lessons you can take away from the story, and the Concept that you think is the point of it all.

1. The “do sunny’s friends forgive him” path. Is this your primary takeaway/question?

This is a pretty understandable question to have afterwards but i would argue it is wrong in the sense that i don’t think the point is whether his friends forgive him or not ... more below!

2. The “does it matter” path. yes!

I think the main point is that . sunny needs to face the truth . like the focus isn’t entirely on the outcome of that (though him telling his friends is a step in that direction, their reaction is not as central to the narrative), because it is more about sunnys perception of what WILL happen, that is stopping him from doing things.

But an interesting thought i was thinking about was: “Would Mari forgive him?” because we see her dreamspace version as someone who is very overt and open about her love towards sunny, and i think that recovering that dynamic/relationship would be what sunny struggles the most with. The friend group is very full of love, and it was so full of love that it led to very Bad Choices being made (basil guiding sunny in the cover up, and he did that because he loved sunny and he was scared for him! But i still think they both loved mari too)

I think i started thinking about this because like. I was listening to a You’re Wrong About podcast re; the Donner Party. And how one of the first people to die, franklin graves, told his daughters to eat him once he died. Okay sorry for the morbid tangent but like. I think there are some people who are very giving in their love like that, and i think mari would be one of those people, where she would ultimately forgive sunny for killing her, but sunny just can’t bear losing her. Anyways as always i am that only child weirdo who is obsessed with sibling dynamics. I do in the end want deeply for them all to be okay and be friends again...man...

I think another reason why this game makes me so crazy is because something something loss of innocence something something. I just think when horrible things happen to young people/children, that is something not super commonly touched upon in media on such a level, so it just feels harrowing, like something was stolen. There are plenty of horror games where children are characters that plot happens to, but this feels like one where a child is at the center of it all, truly experiencing horror the whole time. Sunny is constantly at odds with himself and being able to see that in the way things unravel in headspace as everything falls apart and you go deeper into his psyche. Wow. art. Masterpiece. UGH these kids make me so sad.

Ugh and the twist where Something ended up being Mari “looking” at basil/sunny through her hair. Oh my god!!!!1 i thought that was genuinely so good, the way shame takes shape like that. And just the general grotesque aspect of that lol honestly just the way everything came out was so jawdropping to me i was in awe!!!!

Re: merch i have seen criticism of omocat (company) for never stocking enough inventory and also them releasing plushies and other merch on the same day being Irresponsible because they sell out soo fast. So if you want a plushie you have no chance to really take a look at the merch you would want and order it. I am inclined to agree, i think they should release the merch list ahead of time so people can prepare but ah well. I do hope they have something cute and sweetheart related cuz i loveeee her but!!!

Sorry this is the MOST incoherent thing i have ever written but i haddd to get it out. i wish i could have been more cogent but i figured if i didn't just say what i had to say, the words would never come out. if you've played, let me know your thoughts thank you.
